Street sweeping operations will begin in Vail today, May 5, and will continue until Nov. 1, weather permitting. Crews will be working five days a week to complete the sweeping which includes curbside cinder pick up. Residents are asked to rake the cinders from their yards into the right-of-way and to call the public works department at 970-479-2158 when ready for pick up, then allow a few days for completion.

The town is also encouraging residents to get outside and help clean up their neighborhoods this spring. Residents can dispose of collected trash and large items in dumpsters provided by the town from May 5 thought May 16 or until they are full, whichever comes first. Please do not dispose of electronics, household hazardous waste such as paint or chemicals, or commercial landscaping materials in the dumpsters. The dumpsters will be located at the North Trail trailhead parking lot in West Vail at the west end of the North Frontage Road, the Ford Park parking lot and the East Vail interchange parking area at I-70 exit 180. Community members are reminded the Town of Vail’s Hard to Recycle event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Friday, May 9 at the Ford Park Parking lot. The event is free for Vail residents and employees. This will include collection of electronic waste, household hazardous waste, tires (4 max per person), scrap metal, soft plastics and block Styrofoam, as well as paper shredding services. Used outdoor gear that is still functional, except for helmets and climbing gear, will be accepted. Yard and food waste can also be dropped off at the event.
