Weekly Construction Update, June 16

Featured Projects

Dobson Arena Remodel
Crews continue to work on the interior of the arena, doing demo and lighting work. Inside, crews demolished the old offices, which are to the right of the main entrance, and prepare for the remodel. Lockers and concession area also are being ripped out and the area will be remodeled with a new, larger locker area and concession area. Outside, crews work in the front the arena, where they will add pavers at the entrance. Holy Cross Energy has activated temporary transformers to get power to the building. There will be full road closures and single-lane closures of West Meadow Drive throughout the project. Please avoid the area if possible and follow all instructions given by the traffic control personnel. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall 2026. Contractor is Hyder Construction. Timber Ridge Village
Crews set up jersey barriers along the northern property boundary; Lions Ridge Loop will be closed June 16-20 for rockfall mitigation, occurring 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Below left) The map shows Lions Ridge Loop bus route will temporarily be out and back from Vail Transportation Center to Grand Traverse bus stop. The Simba Run and Sandstone bus stops on the east side will be served only by the Sandstone Route.  In addition to the rockfall mitigation, crews will complete in-road electrical work required for the housing project. The housing project consists of a 302-unit multifamily complex. Completion is scheduled for June 2026. More information on the development and housing units can be found at www.timberridgevail.com. West Middle Creek Housing Development, 351 N. Frontage Road
Lane and path closures for public safety are ongoing along the North Frontage Road between Middle Creek and Solar Vail. The single-lane closure will be regularly adjusted with the continuation of water main installation along the road. Flaggers remain on site to assist with traffic movement during the day (6 a.m. -10 p.m.) and traffic signals will be in place overnight (10 p.m. - 6 a.m.). Please follow traffic control signals, flagger instructions and utilize the pedestrian re-route. Expect ongoing vegetation clearing, site grading, and material hauling to the site. Vail Village

The 62, 278 Hanson Ranch Road (formerly Los Amigos) The 62, former Los Amigos, location.
The site construction fence is up. Work includes complete renovation of the existing restaurant and prep kitchen. Contractor is RA Nelson, Jonny Cohen, 970-471-9258.

816 Forest Road Entry Bridge
Work for the Forest Road duplexes continues, including the footers, new access road and retaining walls. Approval has been granted for use of the lower lot for staging of material and equipment. General Contractor is Mexamer Construction Group, Matt Anderson,970-471-3459. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.

304 Bridge Street
Trash and debris removal is underway during demo work. Work on the Red Lion elevator consists of adding a new two-story residential elevator for second level units and expanding existing stairs at the entry of the vestibule. Scheduled completion is mid-July. Contractor is Domoplex, Miguel Mendoza, 970-366-8512. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.

Ford Park - South Bridge Entrance Landscape ImprovementsWork at Ford Park includes landscape, irrigation and stonework.
Work north of the pedestrian bridge in Ford Park, adjacent to The Amp, will be ongoing to late June, weather permitting. Work includes landscape, irrigation and stonework. Contractor is Fitz Landscaping, James Fitz, 970-904-5233. Town of Vail contact is Kim White, 970-343-9259.

Roundabout Lighting Improvements, I-70 Vail Town Center Interchange
Work continues to complete punch list items and rejuvenation of disturbed areas. The goal of this project is to upgrade the lighting in the Vail Town Center roundabouts to meet current safety standards for both vehicles and pedestrians. The project contractor is Morton Electric of Pueblo. Town of Vail contact is Chad Salli at 970-376-2389. 

Vail Art Studio, Ford ParkCouncil members tour Vail Art Studio construction June 3.
Construction continues on the new Vail Art Studio located on the lower bend of Ford Park, near the pedestrian bridge to Manor Vail. The Vail Art Studio is anticipated to be completed by June 30. Contractor is MW Golden Constructors, Site Supervisor Noah Green, 303-915-3393.

Vail Village Snowmelt Repairs
The majority of the work will occur along East Meadow Drive. Initial repairs, which will be completed by RH Mechanical, will not impact bus or pedestrian traffic. Town of Vail contact is Chris Delles, 970-471-2749.

352 East Meadow Drive, Vail Valley Drive, Comcast, New Fiber to Gravity Haus
Work continues now until June 20. Expect single-lane closures. Pedestrian and traffic control will be provided. Contractor is Sturgeon Electric, excavator is Stone Corp, Hans Von, 970-471-8673. 

420 S. Frontage Road, Xcel Energy
Xcel Energy is doing fire valve work on Xcel property at the intersection of Vail Valley Drive and South Frontage Road now until June 28. Expect shoulder and temporary sidewalk closure on South Frontage Road. Pedestrians, please follow re-routing signs. Contractor is Blackeagle Energy Services, Xcel Energy contact is Marc Mayorga, 303-653-2346. 


Lionshead

Vail Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements, 846 Forest Road
Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is upgrading infrastructure and the wastewater treatment process at their wastewater treatment facility in Vail. The project includes stormwater improvements, paving and landscaping with expected completion this summer. ERWSD contact is Mark Mantua, 970-401-0822.


Outlying

Red Sandstone Park Playground
The play area at Red Sandstone Park will be closed starting Monday, June 9 for painting and staining. A fence will be installed around the work area. Work is expected to be completed by June 18. Town of Vail contact is Gregg Barrie, 970-390-3286

North Frontage Road Pedestrian Safety Improvements
Crews hired by the Town of Vail will install concrete bulb outs, upgrade curb ramps, improve lighting and push button activated crosswalk flashing beacons at the North Frontage Road bus stop, in front of Safeway, to improve pedestrian visibility and shorten the crossing distance at this crosswalk. Concrete curb/gutter, ADA curb ramps and sidewalk installation is complete. Work will continue on signage and pavement marking. Town of Vail contact is Chad Salli at 970-376-2389.  

East Vail Interchange
Crews will work into late June, weather permitting, on landscaping and completing irrigation work along all exit and entrance ramps of I-70 at the exit 180 interchange. Contractor is GH Daniels III and Assoc., Alan Caraveo, 970-471-5977. Town of Vail contact is Kim White, 970-343-9259. 

Potato Patch Drive Water Tank Maintenance
Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is performing maintenance activities on the below-grade water tank at 756 Potato Patch Drive through June 20. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Trucks and other heavy equipment will be parked on the side of the road at this location and activities may occasionally require traffic to travel in the opposite direction of the normal flow on Potato Patch Drive. Traffic control will be in place as needed throughout the project. ERWSD contact is Dan Duerr, 970-333-6773.


I-70 News

  • I-70 West Vail Pass Auxiliary Lanes Project traffic holds are in effect from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. This season, CDOT has launched West Vail Pass text alerts. Text 'vailpass' (one word) to 21000. For more information visit the project page.

Online Community Development Portal

Customers of the Community Development Department have access to a 24/7 online portal to submit applications for contractor registration and construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood.
