Following a series of bike thefts throughout the Town of Vail, the Vail Police Department identified an involved suspect and vehicle of interest. On Aug. 20, Joseph Tylar Turner was arrested on felony theft charges in the Denver Metropolitan area. Vail Police Investigations Division and local law enforcement arrested Turner without incident and recovered some of the stolen property. The Town Vail and Vail Police Department are grateful to our supportive community for their tips and feedback assisting in this investigation.

Aug. 18, 2025 - At approximately 6 a.m. on Aug. 18, Vail Police received a report of an overnight theft of two high-end electric bicycles from the Vail Village area.
A subject was captured on video cutting the locks and leaving with the bikes. The same subject later was captured on video riding one of the bikes on Vail Valley Drive. At the time of the reported theft, the subject was wearing a grey long sleeve shirt, black pants, black shoes, a black hat and a black ski mask.
Vail Police are working to identify the individual captured on video. Those with information regarding the identity of the individual pictured, or who have any additional information related to this incident, are asked to contact Vail Police Investigations at 970-479-2201 or vailpolice@vail.gov.

Vail Police Department opened four bike theft investigations over the weekend and reminds community members to store their valuable property behind locked doors. Bike locks are easily defeatable and not always a definitive deterrent to theft.
