West Vail Roundabout Bridge Scour Mitigation Begins

Post Date:09/02/2025 1:55 PM
On Sept. 3, Town of Vail crews will begin bridge scour maintenance on the bridge connecting the West Vail south roundabout to Streamside Vail. The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Bridge scour mitigation refers to measures taken to prevent loss of the foundation, bridge piers or abutments and is important to the safety and stability of bridges. The West Vail Roundabout Bridge original rock protection was installed in 1998 with the construction of the roundabout. Over the years, sediment has been swept downstream during spring runoffs exposing the bridge foundations. Crews will be placing in rock around piers and there will be equipment in the creek.

The work is being completed by Hallmark, Inc. of Denver. For more information, contact Town of Vail Senior Engineer Chad Salli at 970-376-2389.
