Vail Downgrades Fire Restrictions Alongside Eagle County

Post Date:09/04/2025 3:24 PM

Due to recent rainfall, Eagle County and the Town of Vail are moving down from Stage 2 Fire Restrictions as of 12:01 a.m. Sept. 5. While Eagle County is moving into Stage 1 and has a further tier below that stage, the Town of Vail operates at the equivalent of the county’s Stage 1 Fire Restrictions year-round.

The decision to enact restrictions is based on specific moisture measurements in vegetation and other risk factors such as predicted weather, available resources, and amount of current fire activity.

The Town of Vail’s year-round fire restrictions include:

  • All personal fireworks are prohibited.
  • Open burning, bonfires, and recreational fires are prohibited.
  • Outdoor fireplaces, and charcoal grills have specific limitations, see link below for details.
  • Gas fired appliances such as grills, fire pits, stoves, etc. are allowed but only in areas at least 3 feet from flammable vegetation.
  • Smoking is restricted and is not permitted within 15 feet of entrances to buildings and outdoor eating areas as well as outdoor recreation areas.
  • Discharging of firearms within the Town of Vail is prohibited.
  • Hot work including welding and cutting requires a self-issued NFPA permit form to be on file with the contractor and may require a site inspection by Vail Fire & Emergency Services.
