Unofficial 2025 Election Results for Vail Town Council and Ballot Issue 2A

UNOFFICIAL ELECTION RESULTS

Note: These results are as of midnight on Election Night. The Eagle County Clerk & Recorder is reminding the community that valid ballots are still being processed. Voters have eight days after the election to address any issues that prevented their ballot from being tabulated. Those voters have been alerted via a cure letter. The ninth day after the election is the final day to scan any remaining ballots and report results. Currently, there are no races in the range of a mandatory recount, which is 0.5% of ballots cast.

2025 Town Council Election
Per the Vail Town Charter, the three candidates receiving the highest number of votes are elected to four-year terms:

Barry Davis                 877

The candidate serving the fourth highest votes is elected to a two-year term:

Sam Biszantz              827

The remainder of the field has finished as follows according to the unofficial results:

The election filled the terms of four of the town’s seven council positions. Of the four open seats, one was held by Travis Coggin, who was term limited. One seat was held by Pete Seibert, who decided not to run. The final two seats were held by Sam Biszantz and Barry Davis who ran for re-election. Terms of the remaining council members, Dave Chapin, Reid Phillips and Jonathan Staufer, run to November 2027.

Swearing-in ceremonies for the newly elected members will take place after the election results are certified. At that time the mayor and mayor pro tem will be selected by the council from among its members, and each will serve two-year terms. These activities are scheduled to take place during the afternoon Town Council meeting on Dec. 2. 

Town of Vail Ballot Issue 2A 
SHALL TOWN OF VAIL TAXES BE INCREASED $8,700,000 IN THE FIRST FULL FISCAL YEAR AND BY WHATEVER AMOUNTS ARE RAISED ANNUALLY THEREAFTER, BY THE LEVY OF A NEW TAX ON SHORT-TERM RENTAL ACCOMMODATIONS AT A RATE OF SIX PERCENT (6%) OF THE TOTAL CONSIDERATION PAID FOR SUCH ACCOMMODATIONS, TO TAKE EFFECT ON JANUARY 1 2026, WITH THE REVENUES FROM SUCH TAX TO BE USED TO FUND HOUSING ACTIVITIES, HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS, HOUSING PROGRAMS AND RELATED ACTIVITIES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN; AND SHALL THE REVENUES FROM SUCH TAX AND ANY INVESTMENT EARNINGS THEREON BE COLLECTED AND SPENT BY THE TOWN FOR THE ABOVE-STATED PURPOSES AS A VOTER-APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE, WITHOUT REGARD TO ANY SPENDING, REVENUE-RAISING OR OTHER LIMITATION CONTAINED IN ARTICLE X, SECTION 20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION OR ANY OTHER LAW?

2025 Voter Turnout
Final preliminary unofficial election results for Vail include a total of 1,778 ballots cast, representing a 45.82% voter turnout based on 3,880 registered voters. All Eagle County election results and voter turnout numbers are available on the Colorado Secretary of State’s website. The deadline to certify coordinated election results is on or before Nov. 28. 

2023 Municipal Election Recap
During the 2023 regular municipal election, 1,821 votes were cast out of a total of 3,653 registered voters, representing an over 49% voter turnout. From a field of 10 candidates, elected to four-year terms were Dave Chapin, 854 votes; Reid Phillips, 806 votes; and Jonathan Staufer, 750 votes. Elected to a two-year term was Sam Biszantz, 720 votes.

Note: The most votes counted in any election in Vail’s history occurred during the 2020 general election when a total of 3,408 ballots were cast, representing an 85% voter turnout based on 3,997 registered voters.
