Post Date:03/19/2026 12:22 PMThe Town of Vail’s Sustainable Landscaping series will kick off on March 26 and while the sessions are geared toward professional landscapers, they are open to all. The free lunch and learn workshops will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Vail Public Library Community Room. Lunch will be provided for attendees who RSVP by the day before the presentation they plan to attend.
Series Topics
March 26: Beyond Lawns - Financial and technical resources for landscape conversion
March 31: Landscaping for a Healthy Creek - How your landscape can hurt or heal our waterways
April 9: Native Plant Selections - Native and water-wise plant recommendations
April 16: From Excessive to Efficient - Managing outdoor water use in an historically dry year
This year the community faces historically low snowpack and extreme drought, conditions that severely limit natural replenishment of rivers and reservoirs.
“The message of this year’s sustainable landscaping series is even more urgent than in years past,” said Pete Wadden, Town of Vail Watershed Specialist. “It is crucial that our community prepares for the risk of a water shortage this spring and summer. In addition to learning about landscaping practices that protect our waterways through this series, we are exploring ways to reduce landscape chemical use and diversify landscapes with native water-wise plants.”
The Town of Vail’s Environmental Sustainability Department is organizing the events. For additional details or to RSVP to any of the workshops, contact Wadden at 970-479-2144 or at pwadden@vail.gov.Return to full list >>
