Update: Eagle River Water & Sanitation District has updated the trail closure dates to April 13-26.
Crews from the Town of Vail have been preparing the Gore Valley Trail through Dowd Junction for its earliest ever opening. If weather permits, the trail section will open tomorrow, March 24.
In addition to sweeping, cleaning and other repairs, reopening the trail requires the installation of a fabric screen near the Mud Springs Gulch wildlife underpass. The screen hides trail users from migrating deer and elk and allows the trail to remain open during the spring migration season.
Once open, users are advised to use extreme caution during or after snowstorms due to snowplowing activity on Interstate 70. In addition, planned work by the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District will require the path to reclose for two weeks in next month, currently scheduled for April 6 – 20. Contact the district at info@erwsd.org for more details on the closure.
All additional paved recreation paths in Vail are targeted for opening by Friday, March 27, as weather allows. Following spring snowstorms, trails will be plowed back open after all other priority routes have been serviced.
