Eagle County invites residents to leave the car at home for Bike to Work Month and Bike to Work Day, June 24. A county-wide coalition of partners is celebrating greener commuting all June, with stations, incentives, and a push toward Eagle County's climate goals.  
 
Bike to Work Month directly advances Eagle County's commitment to promote a thriving community by connecting residents valley-wide through shared stations, coalition partnerships, and active transportation infrastructure such as the Eagle Valley Trail. It also supports the county's goal of protecting our mountain ecosystem by encouraging human-powered commuting as a meaningful step toward the county's target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 
 
This year's effort is the most ambitious yet, with a broad coalition of municipal, nonprofit, health, and business partners coming together to encourage residents, commuters, and employers across the valley to swap four wheels for two. From Vail to Eagle, stations along the Eagle Valley Trail will offer free snacks, swag, and a chance to connect with the community, all in support of a cleaner, healthier, more connected Eagle County. 
 
“Bike to Work Day isn’t just an opportunity to connect with other riders, it’s a call to action,” said Kate Kirkman, Climate Programs Coordinator, Eagle County. “Each time we choose riding over driving, we shape the community we want to live in: one where people are healthy, our air is clean, and our trails connect us.” 
 
Riding Toward a Greener Future 
Eagle County Bike to Work Month is more than a fun event; it's a tangible way for residents to contribute to Eagle County's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030. Choosing to bike instead of drive, even one day a week, adds up across a community the size of Eagle County. 
 
"Biking is one of the simplest and most powerful choices an individual can make for our environment," said Beth Markham, Environmental Sustainability Manager, Town of Vail. "Transportation fueled by single-occupancy vehicles is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Eagle County. Human powered commuting like biking is a healthy option for both people and the environment, reducing cars on the road and emissions. Plus, it’s a great way to save money and have fun." 
 
To help residents track and celebrate their impact, the event is partnering with Sole Power Plus, the Town of Vail's free green commuting program and mobile app offered free County-wide. Riders are encouraged to download the app at www.vail.gov/solepower, log their rides, and join the Eagle County Green Commuting Challenge throughout June. The app also unlocks special Bike to Work Day perks: riders who post a photo on Bike to Work Day in the Sole Power Plus app will receive a complimentary beverage at one of two Bike for Beer Happy Hours planned for that afternoon, at east and west ends of the valley (locations to be announced). 
 
Nine Stations, One Community 
This year, Eagle County Bike to Work Day reaches a new milestone: nine stations across the valley, up from seven last year. From Vail to Eagle, the expanded network means more riders than ever will find a welcoming stop on their commute. 
 
On June 24, nine stations will be set up at locations across Eagle County, staffed by volunteer community partners and sponsors offering refreshments, encouragement, and a real sense of what it means to show up for the valley together. Free helmets will be available at the Donovan Park station, hosted by Vail Health, for riders who need one. Helmets are also available from Vail Health year-round at the Avon Rec Center and the Edwards Field House.

 Shift Bike is offering two ways to celebrate Bike to Work Day. Anyone can follow @ShiftBikeCO on Instagram on June 24, and Shift Bike will DM them a free ride code. Additionally, anyone who signs up on the Shift Bike app (or already has an account) will be entered to win a Shift Bike membership. First-time Shift Bike riders who visit the Bike to Work Day station at Donovan Park will also receive 30 minutes free on their first ride. 

 
Part of a Statewide Movement 
Eagle County Bike to Work Day is part of Colorado's broader Bike to Work Month celebration, coordinated statewide by Bicycle Colorado. Across the state, communities gather each June to celebrate cycling as a healthy, eco-friendly, and community-building alternative to driving. This year's statewide summer Bike to Work Day falls on June 24. 
"Bike to Work Day highlights the importance of safe biking infrastructure and promotes cycling as a fun, eco-friendly way to get around," said Shannon Anderson, Board Member, Bicycle Colorado. "The Eagle Valley Trail is a powerful example of what's possible. With just five miles left to build, Eagle County is on the verge of completing a 63-mile designated paved trail connecting Vail Pass to Glenwood Canyon and linking some of Colorado's most popular destinations, from Breckenridge to Aspen. Every rider who participates in Bike to Work Day and supports projects like the Eagle Valley Trail is helping to create a stronger, healthier, and more bike-friendly Colorado.”
