The Town of Vail is inviting the community to an informal gathering to help celebrate the 60th year since Vail’s incorporation. The event will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Aug. 23 – the town’s official “birthday” – at Avanti Food & Beverage at Golden Peak.  Light refreshments including beer, wine and a custom cocktail will be served, and 1960s-themed attire is encouraged.  

While attendees can come for any part of the evening, a community photo will be taken at 5:30 p.m. when officials hope the crowd will be at its largest.  The event is open to all ages. 

Vail was incorporated on Aug. 23, 1966, four years after the opening of Vail Mountain. The town has marked the anniversary throughout the year in a variety of ways ranging from the recognition of a decade of Trailblazers during the annual community meeting; to the Vail America Days celebration of the U.S. 250th, Colorado 150th and Town of Vail 60th; to the “History of the Gore Creek Valley” on display at the Vail Library through the end of the month; to a commemorative video available at https://vimeo.com/1205958268. Table reservations are already full for next month’s largest ever, birthday edition of the Vail Social Community Potluck.  

The upcoming event on Aug. 23 is in addition to the town’s community picnics; the town hosted those neighborhood gatherings earlier in the year in June and July to allow space on the calendar for the additional event.
