Jonathan Staufer was born and raised in Vail and was elected to the Vail Town Council during his first run for public office in 2021. His father, Josef, served on Town Council in the 1970s. Jonathan grew up in the hotel and restaurant business, and upon graduating from Bennington College, returned to work with his father running the Vail Village Inn. He has taken an active role in community and conservation issues, co-founding Trees for Vail and the Vail Farmers´ Market, and working with Rocky Mountain Wild, Wilderness Workshop, and the Headwaters Group of the Sierra Club. Most recently, he has been a writer and editor for the Millennium Alliance for Humanities and the Biosphere. Jonathan continues in the wine and spirits business, now as owner of Grappa Fine Wines and Spirits.
