Individual Property Owners 

An Individual Property Owners STR License means the legal property owner manages and operates their STR property themselves and only has a designated Local Representative. The Local Representative must be physically located within 60 minutes of the STR property and available 24/7 to answer and respond to any complaints. The following items are required to attain an Individual Property Owners STR License, and keep in mind the documents must be uploaded in sequential order, so, be sure to have the documents ready before you apply.

• A copy of the front and back of the designated Local Representative’s driver’s license showing their physical address
• Signed STR Local Representative and Owner Authorization Form, must be signed and dated by both LR and Owner
• Notarized and initialed STR Self-Compliance Affidavit
• Insurance policy with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage and states that it covers STR activity. If you are using an approved online marketplace facilitator’s insurance, you can complete this Affidavit in lieu of the insurance policy upload. Currently, Airbnb, VRBO, and Evolve are accepted
• Schedule a fire inspection and upload a passed Certificate of Fire Inspection
• STR Registration Fee of $260 – paid online via ACH or credit card

Professional Property Managers

A Professional Property Managers STR License is for property managers that will advertise and operate a STR property for the property owner and be available 24/7 to answer and respond to any complaints. All businesses and individuals acting as property managers for STR’s within the Town of Vail boundary, are required to obtain a business license with the Town of Vail, regardless of office location. The following items are required to attain a Professional Property Managers STR License, and keep in mind the documents must be uploaded in sequential order, so, be sure to have the documents ready before you apply.

• Signed STR Local Representative and Property Manager Authorization Form, must be signed and dated by both LR and PR Manager
• Notarized and initialed STR Self-Compliance Affidavit for Professional Property Managers
• Insurance policy with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage and states that it covers STR activity. If you are using an approved online marketplace facilitator’s insurance, you can complete this Affidavit in lieu of the insurance policy upload. Currently, Airbnb, VRBO, and Evolve are accepted
• Schedule a fire inspection and upload a passed Certificate of Fire Inspection

On-Site 24/7 Front Desk Managed 

An On-Site 24/7 Front Desk Managed STR License is for properties that are managed and located at a property managed 24/7.

• Insurance policy with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage and states that it covers STR activity. If you are using an approved online marketplace facilitator’s insurance, you can complete this Affidavit in lieu of the insurance policy upload. Currently, Airbnb, VRBO, and Evolve are accepted
• If applicable, a Management Contract created by the Short-Term Rental Specialist is required to bypass the fire inspection. This contract is required if the property is managed by an off-site Professional Property Manager and must be signed by the both the 24/7 property and Property Manager
• STR Registration Fee of $50 – paid online via ACH or credit card

Duplex Requirement - If Applicable

• If your STR property is a duplex, you are required to send a notice sent with proof of USPS mailing to the owner of adjoining residential unit.
• This would apply only to Individual Owner and Professional Property Manager STR Licenses.
