Short-Term Rental

A short-term rental (STR) as defined in STR Ordinance 20230207 is a residential dwelling unit, or any room therein, available for lease for a term of less than thirty (30) consecutive days, but excluding bed and breakfasts and accommodation units. Before you advertise and operate a STR property within the Town of Vail boundary, you are required to have an approved STR license. For step-by-step instructions on how to apply for your short-term rental license, click here. To print your approved STR license, click here.

If applicable, your property will require a Fire Inspection. To insure your property is ready, thoroughly review the STR Safety Inspection Checklist. If your passed Fire Inspection Form has not been emailed within 48 hours after your scheduled fire inspection, please reach out to Katherine Blocker, kblocker@vail.gov, with your property address.

The Town of Vail offers three different STR Licenses which currently expire February 28, 2026:

Individual Property Owners
Professional Property Managers
On-Site 24/7 Front Desk Managed
Duplex Requirement - If Applicable
