Vail Trail Volunteer Host

If you love the outdoors, enjoy connecting with guests and have a good knowledge of Vail trails and all that Vail has to offer, we invite you to join us for a summer of fun.

As community ambassadors, Trail Host volunteers provide guests with wayfinding assistance, trail and parking information, Eagles Nest Wilderness stewardship ethics, tips on trail and dog etiquette, and impart a welcoming atmosphere. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, help others, learn skills and make friends.

The Trail Host Program operates during the summer season. We ask that Trail Hosts volunteer for up to 24 hours. Shifts are 4 hours in duration. Electric bikes are available for hosts to use during their shift. In return for your service, Trail Hosts are eligible to receive a $400 Visa Gift Card.

Volunteer Community Host

The Vail Community Hosts volunteer in Vail Village and Lionshead throughout the winter and summer seasons to assist guests with wayfinding and general information.

Vail Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS)

The VIPS Program mission is to assist and support the Vail Police Department and to foster positive relationships between the police, residents and visitors of the Town of Vail.

VIPS volunteers allow law enforcement officers to focus on policing and enforcement activities by providing supplemental non-enforcement support services.

Volunteers provide a value-added level of support by assisting the department in a wide range of roles and functions including foot patrol; Check Point Charlie (vehicle access control into the town center); community bike patrol; ski, snowboard, and bicycle registration; records assistance; lost and found; special events; and more. Special events include the Fourth of July Parade, GoPro Mountain Games, Octoberfest, Halloween, various bicycle and ski events, Shop with a Cop, National Night Out, and more.

VIPS assignments are specific and specialized. Once a potential volunteer has completed the application and successfully completed a personal interview, a background check will be performed; eligible applicants are then entered into the program. Each approved volunteer receives a wide range of training covering the various duties VIPS volunteers provide to the department. Volunteers are encouraged to select one or two areas that match their individual interests and experience for regular duty. Uniforms will be provided by the department along with specific equipment required to perform the duties, such as two-way radios or bicycles for bike patrol.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• 18 years of age or older
• Current U.S. Citizen
• Possess a valid driver's license (any U.S. state)
• Acceptable driving record
• No felony convictions
• Successfully complete a background check and personal interview
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Present a professional appearance at all times
• Commit to volunteer 100 hours per year or 50 hours per season if part-time resident
