The Vail Public Safety Communications Center is the multi-discipline public safety communications center, serving all of Eagle County.

The Communications Center answers 911 calls originating from all Eagle County telephone exchanges. These calls can range from life-or-death assistance to requests for road conditions, to animal control calls. As each call is received the dispatcher makes a determination as to the urgency of the call and jurisdiction responsible for responding to the call.

Tips When Calling 911 in an Emergency:

• Check the scene, your own safety is the first thing to consider.
• Give your location to the best of your ability: It's one of the most important details that you can give to the dispatcher. It's not as easy to pinpoint a cell phone. Give street names, nearby addresses, nearby business names and latitude / longitude from your cell phone, if you can. 
• Tell the dispatcher exactly what happened so they can quickly assess the situation, ask the appropriate questions, and get the proper help headed your way.
• Don't panic and try to stay calm so the dispatcher can understand you.
• Listen to the dispatcher and answer their questions. The questions may not seem important to you, but the dispatchers are highly trained and know what information the responders will want in many different situations.
• The call-taker you're speaking with isn't the same person who dispatches the responders; when the 911 call-taker asks you questions it doesn't slow down the response.

General 911 Tips:

• Have your home address, unit number and phone number displayed on all your phones or somewhere highly visible in the home, especially in rental and vacation properties. This can help young children and visitors give accurate information in the case of an emergency.
• If you dialed 911 in error do not hang up. Stay on the line and explain to the dispatcher that you dialed 911 by mistake. If you hang up and do not answer your phone upon call back a police officer will be sent to your home to check on your safety.
