Crime and Traffic

Crime

Our commitment is to address crime in all categories using several forms of prevention and intervention strategies, as well as working with partner agencies. Our approach includes information-sharing, high visibility, intelligence-led initiatives, community-based policing measures, and high-performance work teams.

The Vail PD uses data obtained from a countywide, multi-agency computer aided dispatch and records management system to direct and support its operations. Our ability to collect, retrieve and analyze real-time data helps us to respond to problems, enhance our community-policing partnership, reduce crime, increase road safety, regulate traffic, streamline operational processes and manage resources.

Traffic

Our commitment to road safety includes an aggressive educational plan and widespread enforcement.

Fines

Vail has an incremental fine system for first, second, third and fourth tier municipal offense categories for repeat violations of the same offense.  Violators will be subjected to increased fines based on the number of violations a person accumulates.

Exceptions: Municipal traffic infractions and deceptive use of ski facility, which has a fine of $500 for the first offense, and for any subsequent offense, penalty assessment shall be unavailable.
