Bear-Proof Trash Container
The Wildlife Protection Ordinance mandates wildlife-resistant trash enclosures, also known as bear-proof, for residential dwellings and commercial businesses.
Bear-resistant containers are compliant only if they are closed and latched properly. Vail Town Code requires putting trash outside from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on a scheduled trash collection day. A zero-tolerance approach to violations of regulations allows the municipal court to impose maximum fines and the potential of a jail sentence.
Intentional or unintentional feeding of wildlife at any time through the mishandling of pet food, bird feeders and garbage is prohibited.
