Home MenuSole Power Plus Overview
Sole Power started in 2011 with the goal of getting as many community members participating as possible. In its first year, participants logged more than 19,000 miles. Flash forward 15 years, Sole Power has upgraded to Sole Power Plus and participants have logged more than 595,717 miles.
Sole Power Plus is a free green commuting program for the Eagle County community. The program runs year-round and has challenges that run from Memorial Day through Indigenous People's Day and December through the ski season each year. Participants can track their mileage and carbon emissions over the course of the year and challenges.
Sole Power Plus is a great way to get to work, have fun, save money and get fit over the year. Throughout the year there are monthly social events, mini competitions and prize drawings. It doesn’t matter how you commute: walk, bike, run, skate, carpool or bus. As long as it is not riding in a solo occupancy motor vehicle, you are welcome to join.
All of that fun stuff aside, it helps to reduce carbon emissions and save the planet. Sign up today by downloading the Sole Power Plus mobile app.
It's a great way to exercise, have fun carpooling friends, save money and help protect the planet. Imagine how much money you can save with fewer fuel bills.
If those reasons are not enough, do it for the prizes, the parties, the competition and the community. Challenge a friend, challenge a rival business or club, or challenge yourself. Sole Power Plus is a great way to meet people around the valley at members' social events and receive discounts at various sponsoring stores.
Who sponsors this initiative?
Sole Power Plus is supported by the Town of Vail and a number of generous community sponsors in Eagle County. The goal is to promote healthy lifestyles, find alternative transportation, foster community engagement, reduce our carbon footprint and, of course, to have fun. What is the purpose?
The purpose of Sole Power Plus is to provide a fun way to reduce our carbon footprint, get fit, and save money, all at the same time. Transportation related emissions are one of the largest pollutants in Eagle County. The challenge encourages healthy and active lifestyles while taking advantage of the green transportation infrastructure in the county to reduce these pollutants. How does Green Commuting save the environment?
Consider the emissions produced from driving a car one mile. On average, a car will produce 0.88 lbs. of carbon emissions per mile driven. If a car is driven an average of 30 miles a day, 300 days a year, that’s 9,000 miles per year, resulting in 7,920 lbs. of carbon emissions. For perspective, that’s the same weight as an adult hippopotamus.Leaderboards (Team vs. Individual; Human Powered and Plus Powered)
There are four total leaderboard options that you can look at on the Sole Power Plus mobile app or on the website. The individual leaderboards will include the total number of trips, fuel saved and carbon emissions reduced for each participant. The team leaderboards will show the totals for each team that has been registered. In the team leaderboard pages, you can click on a team to see each team member and their trips.
Both individual and team leaderboards are broken down into two separate leaderboards - Human Powered and Plus Powered. The Human Power Leaderboards, track metrics taken via human powered transit. These include walking, running, biking, e-biking and skating. The Plus Powered Leaderboards, include metrics for carpooling, both in an EV or hybrid/gas powered, and for bus riding.
